On the 1st of June 2017, the Section for Outcomes Research at the Center of Medical Statistics, Informatics and Intelligent Systems has organized and hosted the 1st Symposium on qualitative research and patient reported outcomes measures at the Medical University of Vienna.
The aim of this initiative was to gather experts, opinion leaders, researchers and students in order to discuss recent changes and future challenges in qualitative research and patient reported outcomes. International and national speakers from different universities were invited to talk about qualitative research and patient reported outcomes related to diverse research topics, including musculoskeletal diseases, technological innovations and assistive technologies, oncology, Ebola virus, nutrition and oral health. In addition, several practical examples were presented and discussed. Final discussions at the end of the symposium emphasized a strong agreement on the importance of qualitative research and mixed methods for future medical research in many areas.
The symposium panel led by the head of the section for outcomes research at the Medical University of Vienna, Prof. Tanja Stamm, has proposed and established a networking strategy for future cooperation and scientific interactions in these innovative new research methods.
