Fragmented health information systems and unreliable infrastructure prevent health institutions in many regions from effectively using patient data to support evidence-based decision-making. The new 2ReDIF-Health project addresses this challenge by developing a resilient digital infrastructure for federated health data analysis that can operate under conditions of unreliable internet connectivity and power outages.
Led by Dr. Adnan Jouned in collaboration with the Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI, Tanzania) and the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), the project will deploy the OMOP Common Data Model and the OHDSI Broadsea platform at both partner institutions.
Launched in July 2026 and running until mid-2028, the project combines regular collaboration with on-site visits. During the project, the MedUni Vienna team will support infrastructure deployment, train local researchers, and conduct a joint pilot federated study using synthetic data. Beyond establishing a sustainable federated data platform, the project aims to strengthen local research capacity and expand OHDSI Austrias network through new partnerships in East Africa.
