The lack of replicability of scientific results from preclinical animal studies has been studied well over the past two decades. Although the various factors contributing to poor reproducibility, such as publication bias, experimental design problems, insufficient rigor in the application of statistical methods, and unexpected negative effects of too much standardization, to name a few, are fairly well known, there is much less evidence on strategies to overcome these difficulties.

This workshop aims to provide a platform for researchers involved in the design and conduct of preclinical animal studies who are confronted with these issues in their day-to-day work. Five different sessions will present ideas and recent developments that could advance preclinical research. On both days, sessions will conclude with panel discussions that will allow workshop participants to articulate their own perspectives and discuss the possibility of actually implementing changes in their own research.
